Sheau Sheng Chen, Ph.D.
Chairman of the Board and Founder
Sheau Sheng Chen is our Founder and has served as Chairman of our Board
of Directors since June 2000. In addition to these roles, Dr. Chen is
currently our President and C.E.O. Prior to joining WaveSplitter, he led
the management buyout of XMR Corporation from Amoco, its parent company,
in December 1991. After the acquisition, Dr. Chen served as Chairman of
XMR Corporation, from December 1991 to December 1999. While at XMR Corporation,
he pioneered research in several excimer laser process development works,
including metal recrystallization, metal reflow for submicron semiconductor
device development, laser crystallization of a-Si for poly-Si TFT development
in SRAM and flat panel display applications. Prior to XMR, Dr. Chen worked
at Intel on Intel 386 microprocessor technology development. Later, he
joined the flash memory technology development group, working on metallization
systems for sub-micron devices. Dr. Sheau Chen received his B.S. degree
in chemistry from National Tsing-Hua University, in Hsin-Chu, Taiwan and
his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Texas A&M University.
David Ladd
General Partner of Mayfield Fund
David Ladd has served as a director since June 1998. Mr. Ladd has been a General Partner of the venture capital firm Mayfield Fund since July 1999 and a Venture Partner of Mayfield Fund from October 1997 to June 1999. Previously, he was Vice President of Lucent Technology, from October 1997 to April 1999 and Chief Technology Officer for Octel Communications from April 1994 to September 1997. David Ladd holds a B.S. degree in Engineering Physics from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.S. in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology.
Charles Lau
Managing Director of China Development Industrial Bank U.S. Venture Capital
Operations
Charles Lau has served a director since August 1999. Mr. Lau has been
a Managing Director of China Development Industrial Bank U.S. Venture
Capital Operations since October 1997. From November 1993 to June 1996,
he was Business Development Manager of Carpenter Technology Corp. Mr.
Lau holds a B.A. from Queens College in New York.
Jim Timmins
General Partner and Managing Director, NIF Ventures
Jim Timmins joined NIF Ventures in June 1998, as the firm's first US-based
Partner. He specializes in enterprise software, communications infrastructure,
and Internet commerce companies. NIF Ventures is the US venture capital
operation of the The Daiwa Securities Group of Japan, the fourth largest
investment banking firm in the world. NIF has more than $1 billion in
venture funds under management in Asia and North America.
From 1991 to 1998, Jim was a Partner at Redwood Partners in Menlo Park,
CA. Between 1987 to 1990, Jim was a Principal at Hambrecht & Quist
in San Francisco. Earlier in his career, Jim was co-founder and CEO of
an investment firm in San Diego, CA, which was sold to a British investment
firm, and an Associate in the Corporate Finance Department at Salomon
Brothers, in New York and San Francisco. He holds a BA from the University
of Toronto and an MBA from Stanford University.
