WaveSplitter Receives Industry Award for Technology Innovation
WaveSplitter's WaveProcessor Interleaver Product Wins Photonics
Circle of Excellence Award
FREMONT, CA - January 25, 2001 -WaveSplitter Technologies,
Inc., a worldwide supplier of fiber-optic components for optical
amplifier and DWDM systems, today announced that its WaveProcessor
F3T Interleaver product has been awarded the Photonics Circle of
Excellence Award. This prestigious award recognizes the top 25 most
technically innovative products of the year. This is the first time
the award has been given to an Interleaver product.
"We are honored that our WaveProcessor Interleaver has been
selected as one of the winners of the prestigious Photonics Circle
of Excellence Award," said Bill Diamond, CEO and President
of WaveSplitter Technologies. "It validates our belief that
WaveSplitter's WaveProcessor Interleaver offers world-class performance
and addresses an important need in the industry for more bandwidth."
"The Photonics Circle of Excellence Award honors the best
the industry has to offer in cutting-edge innovations in photonics,"
said Wendy Laurin, Vice President and Group Publisher of Laurin
Publishing. "Award winners comprise every segment in photonics
technology and include large and small firms from around the world.
We strongly believe that this competition contributes to the health
of our industry and brings honor and recognition to the innovators
who are developing tomorrow's products."
The award submissions are carefully assessed based on the product's
excellence, innovation, and achievement. A panel consisting of the
Photonics Spectra's editorial advisory board selects the 25 winners
based on innovation and merit. WaveSplitter's WaveProcessor Interleaver
is included as one of the five winning products which were passive
components designed to advance telecommunications networks.
"We're excited about this industry recognition since WaveSplitter
closely collaborated with our customers on the Interleaver product
to address their application needs," said Steve Tsui, VP of
Sales and Marketing at WaveSplitter. In describing the WaveProcessor's
performance Dr. Ulrich Gaubatz, MTS Optics Team Leader of Siemens
AG said, "Siemens set very aggressive specifications for our
long-haul DWDM product TransXpress Infinity to achieve world-leading
performance, and WaveSplitter was able to deliver on their promises
and exceed our specifications."
The WaveProcessor Interleaver addresses the need for more bandwidth
triggered by the growth of the Internet by interleaving multiple
sets of optical channels into a single, densely packed stream. The
WaveProcessor offers a combination of a wide, flat passband, good
crosstalk performance, and low insertion loss offering a low dispersion
value for high- bit-rate applications. Applications include providing
dense channel spacing in DWDM systems, multichannel optical add/drop
multiplexing in metropolitan area networks, and signal grooming
for improved signal-to-noise.
