WaveSplitter Announces New Board Member

Distinguished Industry Academic David Miller Joins WaveSplitter Corporation Board

FREMONT, CA - February 12, 2001 -WaveSplitter Technologies, Inc., a worldwide supplier of fiber-optic components for optical amplifier and DWDM systems, today announced the appointment of Dr. David Miller to their Board of Directors. Dr. Miller brings over twenty years of academic and research experience in the optics industry to complement the industrial background of current board members.

"Dr. Miller's strong ties to the academic and research community will be a valuable asset to our board," said Bill Diamond, CEO and President of WaveSplitter Technologies. "David will be instrumental in helping us partner more closely with the academic community and increase our visibility of new technology and research applications." Currently, Dr. Miller is the W. M. Keck Foundation Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, and is Director of the E. L. Ginzton Laboratory and of the Solid State and Photonics Laboratory at Stanford. Prior to that, he was the Department Head of the Advanced Photonics Research department at AT&T Bell Laboratories.

His accomplished career also includes publishing over 200 technical papers, delivering over 80 conference invited talks and over 30 short courses, and holding 44 patents. Dr. Miller is a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, the IEEE, the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society and is currently an Elected Member of the Board of Directors of the OSA. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Heriot-Watt University where he was a Carnegie Research Scholar.

In addition to Dr. Miller, the WaveSplitter Board of Directors includes Sheau Sheng Chen, Ph.D., WaveSplitter founder and Chairman; Bill Diamond, President and CEO of WaveSplitter; David Ladd, General Partner of the venture capital firm Mayfield Funds; Charles Lau, Managing Director of China Development Industrial Banks' U.S. Venture Capital Operations; and Henry Nothhaft, Vice Chairman of XO Communications.
