WAVESPLITTER TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCE MAJOR SUPPLY CONTRACT
WaveSplitter closes a long-term supply agreement with an unnamed,
long-haul system integrator for its WavePump pump laser combiner.
OFC, Baltimore, MD, March 6, 2000 WaveSplitter Technologies,
Inc. today announced a strategic supplier agreement with an unnamed
long-haul system integrator for its WavePump pump laser combiner.
WaveSplitters responsiveness, capacity, and product reliability
were key differentiators cited as the basis for awarding the supply
contract for significant volume over the next 12 months.
WaveSplitter met all of customers criteria
WaveSplitter demonstrated the responsiveness required to rapidly
transition ideas from design to manufacturing to meet the customers
demanding schedule. Equally significant was the fact that the WavePump
is the first all-fiber pump combiner to successfully pass key BellcoreTM
reliability tests for fiber-optic components, including the demanding
damp heat test.
WaveSplitter has devoted substantial company resources to designing
the fiber-optic industrys highest levels of reliability into
its pump laser combiners, dense wavelength division multiplexers
(DWDMs), and other products levels aimed at exceeding Bellcore
specifications, said Sheau Chen, Ph.D., President and CEO of WaveSplitter.
Now those efforts are starting to pay off in a big way,
Chen said. System integrators are designing systems to meet
the explosive growth in bandwidth demand and higher power amplifiers
are a key element. Were delighted the WavePump will raise
the performance bar in that important market segment.
All-fiber pump combiner streamlines amplifier design
Pump laser combiners such as WaveSplitters WavePump provide
a cost-effective, flexible way to add more pump lasers to an optical
amplifier. By combining the output of multiple pump laser diodes
and increasing the output of the optical amplifier, pump combiners
help enable the greater signal amplification needed as channel counts
and bit rates increase to handle the exponential growth in network
traffic.
Because WaveSplitters WavePump employs an all-fiber design,
it has a number of advantages over competing technologies. A key
benefit is its low insertion loss, which minimizes the amount of
wasted pump power. The WavePump can also be used to combine many
pump lasers, not just two, which translates into higher power from
the optical amplifier. This is an increasingly critical issue to
meet tomorrows bandwidth requirements.
The WavePumps all-fiber design also has much higher power
handling capabilities, again allowing the design of higher power
amplifiers which are needed for high channel count, high bit rate,
and long transmission distance systems. The WavePump is available
for use with 1480 nm, 980 nm, or Raman amplifiers, and at a price
less than competing technologies.
