WAVESPLITTER TECHNOLOGIES WAVEPROCESSOR SATISFIES EXPLOSIVE
BANDWIDTH DEMAND
WaveProcessor F3T interleaver enables next generation DWDM systems
by combining excellent passband performance, low-insertion-loss
and good isolation
OFC, BALTIMORE, MD, March 06, 2000 WaveSplitter Technologies,
Inc. today announced the introduction of the WaveProcessor
F3T interleaver. The WaveProcessor allows DWDM system designers
to meet the explosive demand for bandwidth by interleaving multiple
sets of channels into a single, densely packed stream. This design
lets customers pay as they grow to create an intelligent
upgrade path to expand capacity when needed while reducing initial
installed cost.
WaveSplitter was the first company to introduce an interleaver
to the marketplace, said Sheau Chen, President and CEO of
WaveSplitter, and we have continued to innovate. The entirely
new design of the WaveProcessor offers a flat-top passband with
incredibly low loss, allowing customers to make better use of bandwidth.
While customers were excited with our WaveXpander, we expect
them to be overwhelmed with the WaveProcessor.
WaveProcessor meets DWDM System needs
As the need for bandwidth experiences unprecedented growth, DWDM
system designers need ways to multiplex and demultiplex signals
with channel spacings of 50 GHz and below. These systems require
a wide and uniform channel passband to minimize changes in the signal
as the transmitters drift while also requiring good isolation to
filter neighboring channels. While low insertion loss is important
to increase the transmission distance for long-haul applications,
good channel uniformity is also required over a wide wavelength
range to allow the maximum number of signals to be used.
The new WaveProcessor addresses all these needs. Its unique flat-top
design fills up to 55% of the channel spacing while offering incredibly
low loss. The spectrum is uniform over 80 channels and its flexible
design allows operation in either the C- or L-band. When designed
into the initial system, the WaveProcessor allows a modular upgrade
path to denser channel spacings, allowing intelligent bandwidth
growth when required. And the WaveProcessor offers these radically
improved features at a price comparable to the earlier generation
device.
Availability
WaveSplitters WaveProcessor is available now in prototype
quantities with volume availability in Fall 2000.
