WaveSplitter Unveils 25 GHz, 160 Channel DWDM Module Transmitting
10 Gbits/second Signals at OFC 2001
Demonstration Highlights Excellent Flat Top Passband and Dispersion
Performance Required for Very High Data Rates through Dense Channel
Spacing
FREMONT, CA -March 16, 2001 - Next week at the OFC conference,
WaveSplitter Technologies, Inc., a worldwide supplier of fiber-optic
components for optical amplifier and DWDM systems, will demonstrate
a very dense 25 GHz, 160 Channel DWDM module transmitting signals
at a high data rate of 10 Gbits/second. This combination of dense
channel spacing and very high data rate signal addresses the need
of DWDM system integrators to reduce the cost of higher bandwidth
solutions by packing more channels into the available bandwidth
while simultaneously increasing transmission speed.
This demonstration is based on the integration of a 1x4 25 GHz WaveProcessorInterleaver
with four forty-channel, 100 GHz WaveArray array waveguide
gratings (AWGs) to create a complete 160 channel demultiplexing
solution contained within the standard C-band wavelength range running
at 10 Gbits/second transmission speed. It will be running live during
the OFC trade show at WaveSplitter's booth # 2458.
An attached eye diagram (see below) shows the excellent optical
performance obtained through the demultiplexer. The WaveProcessor
Interleaver offers an excellent flat top passband and dispersion
characteristics needed at high data rates of 10 Gbits/second. These
specifications are critical as system integrators strive to improve
spectral efficiency by running high bit rates through dense channel
spacing.
"WaveSplitter continues to push the technology envelope to
provide innovative products to meet the needs of next-generation
optical systems," said Bill Diamond, President and CEO of WaveSplitter.
"Currently, the industry needs to have high bandwidth solutions
that offer high channel counts, reduced channel spacing, and high
data rates. This demonstration highlights the spectral efficiency
that can be achieved with dense channel spacings and high bit rates.
Our advanced fused-fiber interleaver offers significant performance
enhancements over competing technologies."
Integrated Solutions
The combination of a WaveProcessor Interleaver with WaveSplitter's
WaveArray AWGs enables a complete high-bandwidth solution. The WaveProcessor
Interleaver allows very dense filtering with low insertion loss,
a flat passband, and excellent crosstalk. WaveSplitter's AWGs are
excellent for filtering high channel counts in an efficient manner.
