WaveSplitter Adds Thin-Film Filter and Micro-Optic Technology Capabilities

ANAHEIM, CA - March 20, 2001 -WaveSplitter Technologies, Inc., a worldwide supplier of fiber-optic components for optical amplifier and DWDM systems, today announced at the OFC show that it has added thin-film filter and micro-optic technology capabilities to its product platforms. These additional platform capabilities complement WaveSplitter's core competencies in fused-fiber and planar lightguide circuit technologies. The first products introduced include add/drop thin-film filters and single- and dual-stage isolators.

"WaveSplitter strives to offer a wide selection of technology platforms to address our customers' specific needs," said Bill Diamond, CEO and President of WaveSplitter. "Consistent with our company vision, we have begun to broaden our technology platforms to include thin-film filter and micro-optic products to offer greater technology and product options for our customers and enhance our ability to provide higher-level integrated module and subsystem solutions."

The first thin-film filter product to be introduced by the company is the WaveSelector™ add/drop filter. Thin-film filters address the need in long haul and metro networks for optical add/drop and DWDM filters. The WaveSelector offers a combination of high drop and channel pass isolation, low insertion loss, and an epoxy-free optical path to ensure reliable performance. Applications include adding or dropping a signal in long-haul and DWDM networks, DWDM multiplexing, and cable television distribution networks.

In addition, WaveSplitter has added micro-optic technologies to its WaveEssentials™ product line. The first micro-optic technology available from the company includes micro-optic isolators, which are available in single- and dual-stage options to cover a wide range of isolation requirements. Optical isolators address a critical need for telecommunication systems using EDFAs to prevent unwanted feedback in the amplifier and protect the laser diode. WaveSplitter's polarization insensitive isolators offer low insertion loss, high isolation, low polarization mode dispersion, small package size, and are Telcordiaä qualified.

Availability
WaveSplitter's WaveSelector thin-film filters and WaveEssentials single- and dual-stage isolators are available now in volume quantities.
