WaveSplitter Announces Custom Optical Module Challenge at NFOEC 2001

Demonstration of Rapid Module Prototype Capabilities from Concept to Delivery

FREMONT, CA - July 2, 2001 - At the NFOEC show, WaveSplitter Technologies, Inc., a worldwide supplier of fiber-optic components and modules for advanced optical networks, will demonstrate its rapid response design capabilities with the Custom Optical Module Challenge. As a part of this challenge, companies can submit their design requirements for custom optical modules at WaveSplitter's booth #2803 up until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9th. WaveSplitter will then select one design to deliver a fully assembled prototype by the end of the show on Wednesday, July 11th.

The challenge will demonstrate WaveSplitter's full breadth of design capabilities from concept to delivery including simulation, modeling, packaging, and fiber ribbonization, and will result in a fully assembled prototype showing form, fit and function by the end of the show. The only information that companies need to provide with their submission is optical circuit functionality and mechanical constraints including package dimensions, input/output fiber locations, fiber ribbonization and connectorization requirements. For additional questions on the design requirements, please e-mail WaveSplitter at modulechallenge@wavesplitter.com.

"WaveSplitter understands that cost and size reductions through integration are a critical challenge for system integrators," said Bill Diamond, President and CEO of WaveSplitter. "We have developed advanced design capabilities and invested in proprietary design equipment to be able to provide our customers with rapid seamless integrated module and subsystem solutions enabling them faster time-to-revenue."

WaveSplitter's module capabilities include complex fiber routing and management solutions; dense packaging; and rapid design and prototyping utilizing WaveSplitter's fused fiber, planar lightguide circuit, and micro-optic product platforms. The company employs state-of-the-art manufacturing automation including a stereo lithography prototyping capability to enable rapid physical design iterations directly from CAD drawings. WaveSplitter can provide a range of modules from compact packages of fused fiber components to very dense DWDM solutions integrating WaveSplitter's WaveProcessor™ Interleaver and WaveArray™ high-channel count arrayed waveguide gratings.
