WaveSplitter Announces Wafer Fabrication for Planar Lightguide
Circuits
Facility Complements Existing Design and Packaging Capability
Enabling End-to-End Product Realization
FREMONT, CA - July 5, 2001 - WaveSplitter Technologies,
Inc., a worldwide supplier of fiber-optic components and modules
for advanced optical networks, today announced its own wafer fabrication
for the manufacture of planar lightguide circuit (PLC) wafers. This
manufacturing facility complements WaveSplitter's existing PLC design
and packaging capabilities and provides complete end-to-end product
realization of innovative, integrated components.
"Having our own wafer fabrication is a key part of our multi-pronged
strategy to ensure our supply of wafers and facilitate long-term
product development plans," said Bill Diamond, President and
CEO of WaveSplitter. "WaveSplitter will continue to rely on
outside foundries in addition to our own wafer fabrication, waveguide
design and packaging expertise to provide us with stronger product
differentiation in the areas of materials and process development."
The facility comes equipped with a class 100 clean room and access
to existing processes, including photoresist coat and develop, metallization,
metrology and dicing equipment. In addition, WaveSplitter will install
in that facility its own dedicated equipment for PLC wafer fabrication,
including film deposition, etch, photolithography and specialized
metrology tools. By combining specific WaveSplitter equipment with
an existing facility, WaveSplitter can accelerate time to production
while minimizing capital equipment expense.
